At A Glance
With the march of time and change in attitude and outlook for broadening the intellectual horizon of the vicinity, Kishorenagar ultimately got its own language to expose its full identity, pride and glory when, setting aside many absurdities and trampling down insurmountable difficulties, many educationists, social activists, and eminent personalities hailing from various walks of life with co-operative assurances of the toiling masses , flamboyant youth and enthusiasts came out with much confidence, vigour and enthusiasm, a sense of devotion and dedication, an ample amount of goodwill and generosity to build up, nourish and patronise a college for catering to the needs of higher education of the people of this area. The long-felt need for higher education ultimately took its concrete shape in the year 1979 when the college christened as Kishorenagar College took its birth thus kindling a new hope to open up a new vista of knowledge in future. So mental unfolding giving birth to intellectual bud-time in the area.
So goes the story in fulfilling the emotions and aspirations of the people. Initially it started functioning in chintamani Vidyapitha on 01.01.1979. Because of inadequate accommodation to house the college, it was shifted to its own campus in 1985. Since then it has been playing a prominent role in catering to the growing requirements of the aspirants for the higher education. Amidst all trials and tribulations it has now completed 33 milestones of its eventful life.
The College is situated at the heart of Kishorenagar (Previously headquarters of Kishorenagar constituency)5 kms away from Somepur on Cuttack-Paradeep state Highway. It is unique in itself where one will feel lost in the masses of students, and a clean and compact campus. A pucca road in the campus leading to the college Administrative Building with Biju Pattanaik library housed upstairs stands as a testimony to the lofty altitude and status the college has achieved from its nascent state. So a fine blending of anxiety and curiosity.
The river Mahandadi encircles the college in the north. The gentle breeze from the north brings many new messages for soothing hearts of many for intellectual enrichment. The vast expanse of green fields in the south provides a panoramic view. It will be dubbed as unduly stubbornness and awefully repulsive if the inner sanctity and beauty of the college is not given vent to. A lively and vibrant environment in the campus contributes to wholesome development of the students. The institution nurtures itself in the lap of lush green environment that speaks about the unstinted devotion of the college to figure out the destines of the students. The statue of Late Sri Gopabandhu Das in the campus facing the main entrance creates a sense of reverence in the hearts of each and all. To speak spade a spade, the very touch of this kind of beauty comforts ones heart, elevates one mentally and morally, moves away the pal of darkness from ones spirits and enables one to shed his despondency and regain his happiness. Away from the clamour and din of the bazaar, if the truth be told, it provides a perfect setting to unravel the inherent traits of the individual attributes.
The college is affiliated to Utkal University as well as the CHSE, Odisha. Initially the college imparted teaching only in I.A. which was, later on, converted to +2. Subsequently +2 Science and +3 Degree in Arts and Science were introduced in 1989, 1988 and 1993 respectively. In 1993-94 Honours classes in History, Political Science and Education were introduced. Honours classes in Odia, English, Philosophy, Economics, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Botany and Zoology were introduced from the session 2004-05 thereby proclaiming the college as a full-fledged one. With permanent recognition, the college has taken a long stride both in quality education and stature and status. With a sizeable number of students and experienced faculty members having vigour and vitality to share their knowledge with anyone who comes forward with an instinct to learn, the college has carved out a distinct place for itself in the map of premier rural educational institution of higher learning in the state inculcating in the young minds a unique sense of patience, perseverance, loyalty and transparency.
It is really boastful to reiterate that the college now a full-fudged Degree College has a track record of turning out good students comfortably settled in various fields in every nook and corner of the country. Having been accredited by NAAC it has enriched its library with racks full of texts and references with UGC assistance. Its Administrative, Examination and Accounts Sections are fully computerised along with SAMS Laboratories for both +2 & +3 streams. To enthuse and inspire the students it has introduced the Best Graduate Award in the field of academic excellence from the session 2009-10.
The college has also N.S.S. Units, one for Boys and the other for Girls. Its volunteers have accomplished various commendable works both in and outside the state. It has really generated a team spirit and resourcefulness among the students making them fit to accommodate anywhere in the society.
The College as started a new society namely the Scientific Spiritual Society from the Academic Session 2010-2011.
Notwithstanding many stresses and strains, ups and downs, changes and challenges, the college looks forward to reaching an apogee of unsurpassable perfection and academic excellence in the conduct of examination. With the Principal, SRI BIKASH RANJAN SAHU, being an uncompromising workaholic academician with 35yrs. Of experience the college has taken a long stride on the path of progress with a strong commitment to strive hard to maintain its stature and promote its status sticking to its mission and vision-2020. Last but not the least the institution pledges its gratitude to the founding and leading persons for their selfless contributions and magnanimity for its all-round development.
